We are told either implicitly or explicitly that owning a home is one of the keys to happiness. Is this the case though? Not according to some recent research based on 10,000 people. In fact the research indicates the opposite that the process of owning a home leads to higher levels of unhappiness. It makes a bit of sense, if we take into account how many people are stressed out about paying off their mortgages. We also fool ourselves into believing that once that house is payed off then everything will be fine. The problem with that is two fold, thats a lot of years to subject yourself to patterns of stress and unhappiness in the hope of an eventual payoff and secondly, that payoff tends to be short lived as research indicates it is not long before we are off purchasing that bigger and better house.
What other beliefs do you have that are not substantiated by scientific research?
