People think that they have to stop playing roles in order to see reality. This is not the case at all and would be an impossibility at any rate.
It is the awareness of roles and consequently not identifying with them that is the critical difference.
We might say that until we become aware, we are unconsciously playing roles and heavily identifying with them. After we knowingly/consciously play roles but do not identify with them.
